PERSONALITY: Derrius Kern is a very sly and easy going kind of guy,
enjoying the irony of situations. His demeanor though puts many a man at
easy with his help full nature. Sometimes being to helpful <Grin>.

HISTORY:
Derrius was born in a small town by the name of Thagtress located along
the sword coast. His father is a small merchant dealing in precious gems,
who traveled the sword coast from town to town selling his wears to the
local merchants of the area. When he had gathered enough wealth he
purchased a tradesman ship in Waterdeep. Gathering a small crew, with his
son Derrius (age 30)included, they traveled off into the stars. Trading in
precious gems. His father taught him many things about the ways of
spelljamming and the ports and different customs, and what to expect from
various people. Telling his son to enjoy what life has to offer, and some
times the really lucky ones come upon and adventure that legends are talked
about. For 5 years, Derrius spent traveling among the heavens, He learned
many things of spelljamming, including how to properly mann the helm chair.
A few trips even included travel to other crystal spheres. Derrius father
always seemed to have enough funds to pay the small crew, He was a generous
man. Derrius admired his father for this.
Derrius did how ever learn of a little bit darker side of the travel as
well, He has established many a friends in his travels, but one of his
friends, Glenda Treshvain taught him the way of stealth and thieving.
Derrius at first was opposed to such actions of thieving, but having a
natural knack for it and hearing Glenda's explanation that she was only
steeling from the wealthy and only a very little at that. Beside the
wealthy have more money than they can spend anyway. They really won't miss
it anyway. And the things that are taken are spent among the poor people
helping them out. So how can that be bad, she explained. Derrius
scratched his head, not having an answer to that one. I see your point.
>From that day on Glenda showed and taught Derrius various things in a art
that is not welcome in most homes.
Recently in the past, Derrius and his father ship were in route to Dragon
Rock. Derrius father purchased a map, of untold wonder. Derrius father
said that he had been look for this map for some time now and that this it
a map that legends are made from. Derrius said sure dad, lets go and
become legends, not really believing that this map had any real value, but
hey it makes the old man happy. 5 days ago, a mysterious looking ship
black ship appeared from out of no where, and attacked smaller tradesman.
Derrius happened to be on the helm at the time. Using his skills to the
best of his ability, quickly find out that he had not the speed to outrun
the vessel, Derrius took the tradesman into a nearby asteroid field and
used the agility of the tradesman to out maneuver the much larger ship.
The tradesman took sever damage from both the attacking vessel and ramming
into a few small asteroids as well. With the small tradesman badly damaged
and losses to some of the crew, Derrius took what little advantage they had
and jumped to spelljamming speed as quickly as he could headed for Troil
and Waterdeep for safety and repairs. Reaching Troil Derrius headed the
ship toward Waterdeep, but the damage was to severe and upon entry of Troil
gravity plane the small Tradesman starting falling apart. Derrius guided
the crumbling ship as best he could, making it to the Sword Coast. Before
the ship finally gave way and crashed a few hundred yards off the shore
line in the dead of night. His father was seriously injured in the crash,
and Derrius was banged up as well, be somehow he managed to get he and his
father to shore as the last of the tradesman disappeared below the wave.
Derrius tried the vain to aid his father but knew the end was soon at hand.
Derrius saw death creeping into his fathers face. "Derrius quick take
this,<Cough> his father shoves a small bag and the map into his hand. You
will have to be my legend now, my day for a new journey is at hand <Cough>
find what lies at the end of this map, the bag will give you funds when
needed <Cough, Cough, Cough>. His fathers eyes flutter shut. Just then
Derrius notices the ship from earlier descends out of the sky above where
the tradesman crashed landed. Derrius finds a small nearby cove and drags
he and his father into it a hope they are not spotted. Derrius watches the
ship from the shadows of the cove while still clutching his departed father
in his arms. All to soon Derrius can no longer keep his eyes open as
complete exhaustion overtakes him as he passes out from complete exhaustion.

Those finding Derrius:
Looking into a small cove near the shore line, the party discovers light
tracks of someone being dragged into a small cove area, The cove area is
shaded making it hard to tell what lies within.
Any that investigate soon discover two male gnomes, with obvious signs of
fatigue and wounds. The young of the two seems to be clutching the older
one, in some sort of bear hug. They both appear to be asleep.
They will soon discover the older gnome to be dead and the younger one,
slow to come around. Blinking his eyes several times trying to get his
eyes accustomed to the light and the surroundings. The words out of his
mouth are "Water".

Adventurer notes:
The helm chair would most likely still be intact, but is now located below
beneath the water. Trying to retrieve it might prove quite interesting.
And then there would be matter of having to acquire another ship to use
the helm chair with.
