Appearance:
Nylan Zore is of average height for a scro, standing little under 6'
tall. Unlike most of her brethren, she is slimly built and not
extremely athletic. Her proportions are closer to that of an athletic
human female, not those of a scro. Her short, fine fur is albino white,
which she highlights blue with dyes. Her eyes are pink, due to her
albinism, but are flaked with gold. Her "scro" features, tusks and a
pig snout, are not overly prevalent, as her nose is small and her tusks
barely protrude from her jaw. To scro, she is extremely beautiful and
many a scro warrior has a portrait of her under his bunk.
When preparing for battle, Nylan wears her black studded armor and a
deep purple cloak. Her armor does not have spikes, as they impede her
use of her skills. She prefers her broad sword in battle, but will use
her pistol when she gets the chance. At other times, she prefers a
tight-fitting leather dress with a short mini-skirt and knee-high boots.
Background:
Few scro are as celebrated as Nylan. She is considered by many to be a
true hero of the scro people and a symbol of the greatness that each
individual scro can achieve. However, she is now on the run from the
very people that hail her as hero.
Nylan started her life as the only daughter of Vaark Zore, a low-raking
captain in the scro fleet. While she did attend the scro academy at
Retribution, she chafed under the extreme discipline taught by scro
professors there. She was too physically weak to compete with her
classmates, and was often bullied by them. Additionally, her extreme
attitude problems proved more than most of the professors could handle.
The highlight of her early years at the academy was running the
collective undergarments of the entire Battle Ball team up the flag
poles, with the dean of the collage tangled in them, still fast asleep!
This daring raid almost got her kicked out of the academy (to say
nothing of the risk of execution!), but a high ranking warpriest of
Dukagsh was visiting at the time of the incident. So impressed was he
with her antics that he recruited her for a "special program" that the
Church was sponsoring. The warpriests were training a number of
multi-classed thief/mages for special tasks to get ready for the
upcoming war with the elves. Nylan was the best of the best, finishing
top in her class and given dozens of assignments.
Finally, Nylan was given a top secret assignment: creation of the Iron
Bands of the Marauder. This assignment would team her up with the human
mercenary archmage Karrage, a scro bodyguard, and the highly unusual
insectare V'vezzeth, a "powerful mage" among his people. In truth, he
was a scribe with a basic understanding of magic who had angered his
superior and was thus given a suicide mission. The insectare fully
expected the expedition to fail, and V'vezzeth's superior thought the
punishment fitting to V'vezzeth's crime of negligence.
The mission was long an complex, taking the group to distant spheres,
the inner planes, and even to the outer planes. They had numerous
adventures, and were constantly saving each other's lives. However,
something happened on these missions that no one, neither the Scro
Almighty Leader, the Insectare High Command, nor even Asmodeous himself
could have guessed: Nylan and V'vezzeth fell in love. Nylan ignited an
adventurous spirit within the meek scribe, and he touched her feminine
side. The two developed a close relationship, and against all odds,
succeeded in their mission. In doing so, however, their love was
uncovered by agents of Asmodeous, who informed the Insectare High
Command. The insectare were horrified by the news, considering it an
abomination. They immediately began moving against the two. V'vezzeth
was "recalled for promotion and reassignment," while assassins were sent
against Nylan. V'vezzeth was arrested the moment he set foot on the
insectare homeworld, and was sent to the Cavern of Pain to lavish in
agony for a century. A few weeks later, the assassins attacked, slaying
Nylan in a dark alley while she was returning home from a celebration.
Her body was left to rot in the slime of the street.
Nylan's story does not end there, however. In that black alley, as she
lay dying, Nylan's last thoughts were of her love. In fact, her love
was so strong that she drew the attention of none other than Hanali
Celanil, the elvish goddess of love. Hanali had discovered, to her
shock, the existence of the scro during Nylan's travels. She was
intrigued at the same time, as the scro were obviously a highly
organized race that could threaten the elves. Yet, she sensed a
greatness about them, and felt that the best way to defeat the scro
threat was not through war, but through love. When Nylan lay dying,
Hanali manifested herself and spirited her away to Arvandor for
healing.
Once Nylan had been fully healed, she was brought before Corellon.
Hanali explained the threat that the scro posed to the elves, and of how
she thought was the best method of defeating that threat. Corellon long
considered Hanali's plan, and decided to test Nylan. Corellon had long
suspected the existence of such creatures, but he sensed something else
was afoot. He feared, given rumors he was hearing, that fiends were
somehow involved. Who better than a scro hero to discover the truth to
those rumors and expose a fiendish plot? He sent Nylan back to the
prime, fully rejuvenated and her youth fully restored, despite her age
of 60 years. For all intense purposes, Corellon gave Nylan a body of a
20-year old scro and the lifespan of an elf.
Nylan returned to the prime two years ago, confused and alone on the
Rock of Bral. Her memory of Arvandor was erased, but her memories of
the scro were still intact. Driven by goals instilled in her by the
elves, she now seeks the truth. She is now trying to uncover the many
layers of intrigue laid down by the insectare and expose their vile
plots for all to see. She believes her lover is dead, but if she
discovers that he is prisoner still, hell and high water will not keep
her from rescuing him.
Nylan is a legend among the scro, a dream for many scro warriors. All
have given her up for dead long ago, and her "return" would shock them
and raise considerable suspicion.
