Cryslar and Layren are identical twins. It is said that even their parents couldn't tell them apart. They appear as elven males with fair skin, shoulder-length dark brown hair, and steel-gray eyes. They are both approx. 5'5" tall and 105 lbs (306 years old). Their preferred way of dressing is in an IEN Kintiara uniform bearing the blazon of House Jandara.
The brothers originally hailed from Greyspace, but when their parents were killed in the first unhuman war, they became wards of the IEN and were sent to a military academy in an elven sphere. While in the academy, their sorcerous talents began to show themselves in earnest and the other students avoided the brothers. Having no other close family, Cryslar and Layren depended on each other for companionship. Through the years this closeness has given them a limited form of ESP. They can feel each other's happiness, sorrow, pain and anger. Sometimes one will finish the other's statement, much to the annoyance of anyone listening. This intimate awareness allows them to work in perfect harmony in either diplomatic negotiations or in combat. Never will one be encountered without the other.
The brothers enlisted in the Imperial Elven Navy after graduating from the academy and served with distinction in various skirmishes after the First Unhuman War. After proving themselves as both helmsmen and capable marines, they were accepted into the Kintiara's ranks. With their newfound respect, came more dangerous missions, including the multi-fleet combat with the Vodoni, negotiating the trade agreement between the Imperial Navy and the Zalani for sale of the Raptor class ships (a refitted Nightwolf), and the secret recapture and refit of the Karpri spacestation in Realmspace.
The Jandara twins are a high profile pair amongst the Imperial Elven Navy. They have turned down more than captaincy, including the newly commissioned Armada Sehanine's Fire, as it would mean their separation. Their current assignment, aboard New Hope station in Sulspace, is to "procure" suitable ships for the elven navy. They maintain agents and spies in all the known spheres. Little happens that they do not know about. They also keep adventurers and mercenaries on retainer for ship procurement purposes (any elven ship, which currently isn't in the hands of the IEN or an authorized user). These "hired guns" capture and turn over the "rightful elven property" to the twins, usually for a fee equaling 10% of the ship's current worth.
In combat, Cryslar will take the battle to the enemy, fighting with both sword and spell while Layren casts protective spells for himself and his brother, and maintains a defensive posture at Cryslar's back. This "back-to-back" fighting style ensures the brothers cannot be flanked in combat.
Essentially these "two" NPCs are identical. This is a condensed version of how they appear IMC. They actually have different gear and spells, but for the sake of brevity, I shortened it. They started out as my PC's in an SJ campaign with only the DM and two players, so for a "party" we both played 2 characters each. Later, they became my NPC's and were used as IEN points of contact for my players.
I want to thank Tiluran, whose version of the Battle Wizard Prestige Class I used to replace the 2e War Wizard kit.
* If anyone wants the particulars on the Ship In A Bottle spell I created, let me know, I have both 2e and 3e versions.
