Entry in the Unique Ship Challenge III.
Flame! belongs to the Fireball Alliance of Bral. It's normally in operation within the confines of Bralspace collecting samples and doing minor research for the mages of the alliance. Once a standard Lanceship, it has had numerous modifications by the members of the alliance to improve its survival chances on research projects. Its original thin wood hull was replaced with a burnished copper hull, which is continually kept spotless by an assortment of minor magics. It's ballista and turret was replaced with magical varieties produced by the mages of the alliance. The ship is also used on those rare occasions when Bral is attacked from space as a spell platform for some of the other members of the alliance.
Lyzer "Fireball" Innson (mh/M8/NG, hp: 23, Int: 17, Wis:
8, Chr: 16)
Prof's: navigation - wildspace, herbalism, spellcraft, etiquette,
local history - Bral.
Lyzer is the nominal captain of Flame! but on occasions one of the other mages of the alliance takes command for a time. Lyzer operates the ship for the guild, procuring assorted materials from around Bralspace that the members of the alliance request in their research. He would normally be stationed upon Bral with the other members of the alliance, but for his extremely bad habit of casting multiple fireballs on foes of the city before thinking of the consequences.
Appearance: Lyzer is a tall (6'5'') 35, dark skinned mage with short red hair. He normally dresses in a variety of free flowing cloths, as long as they are coloured orange. He wares a set of mithral bracers upon his forearms (Bracers of AC: 5), and carries at least 2 wands at all times (preferred types include magic missile, fireball, but he does own a wand of wonder).
Roleplaying Notes: Use the Intimidator wizard personality from PHBR4.
Torios Brightheart (mhe/M (Div) 5/NG, hp: 11, Int:16,
Wis:17)
Prof's: spellcraft, rope use, astrology, numerology.
Torios was assigned to the Flame! because of his habit of finding the required items before a member of alliance asks for it. Torios grew up in the Realms, a minor mage in Halruaa, in service to the church of Savras. It was from there that he was "told" that his destiny was in wildspace, and following a variety of divinations led him to Bral and the alliance.
Appearance: Torios is 5'7'' tall, balding white haired mage with a slightly stooped walk. He dresses in the pale yellow robes of a priest of Savras, and holds a gnarled staff with a lightly glowing crystal at it's top.
Roleplaying Notes: Torios doesn't talk much, but listens to all. He is usually found coming onto deck looking in the direction of a far off ship before it is visible to the lookouts. It is his word, which sends the ship to the various worlds in Bralspace in search of the items that the alliance wants or will want.

Prof's: specialized in Ballista, weapon loader - ballista,
seamanship - wildspace.
These four are the weapon crews for the ballista. Hired and then trained at alliance expense, the fearsome foursome as some call them, is one of the best ballista crews on Bral. At least one of them is usually at the ballista doing minor adjustments to fine-tune its workings.
Daphney (fh/SP (Ptah) 3/LN, hp: 14, Int:16)
Prof's: healing, planetology, spelljamming history, sail
manipulation.
Daphney is the sail master of the ship. She was placed on board as a healer in those times of danger, but found that she had a natural knack with the ships operations and rapport with the men on board.
Appearance: Daphney at all times wears her priest's robes tied with a bright red sash around her middle. She is a short (5'1'') but energetic worker who always seems to have a smile on her face and a cheerful disposition when times get bad.
The remainder of the crew (6), is all Brallian Regulars, dressed
in the standard uniform. All have proficiency's in short sword,
long bow, ballista, and seamanship - wildspace.
