Entry in the Unique Ship Challenge III.
SHIP: "Sea of Stars", Barge of Ptah
MODIFICATIONS: Major helm, Magical + 2 Piercing Ram (F), plus see CARGO. MISSION: Spread the word and knowledge of Ptah and provide clerical support to those deemed worthy.
CREW:
Drigelembus (C7/h/f, Evangelist kit)
Captain and source of inspiration for the long term mission of the
Sea of Stars. Her dedication to Ptah and the wonders of
spelljamming have kept the ship going during some very difficult
times. Having badly burned her hands in a space battle early in her
career, she always wears bandages like Ptah's symbol.
Nafirnal (C5/h/m, Missionary kit)
First officer and counter-balance to the demanding, driving
personality of the captain. He comforts those he can and soothes
the Captains head-strong religious fervor. His level-headed
thinking has saved the ship on more than one occasion and he
usually conducts diplomatic missions on groundling planets.
Skamerudtes (C6/d/m)
A rare dwarf who has left his groundling heritage to see the stars.
He is missing an eye and wears a black eyepatch with small diamonds
that look like stars on it.
Kogmit (F4/hadozee/f, Berserker kit)
Rescued by Nafirnal after her mate was taken by Illithids, she has
dedicated her life to serving the crew and helping others. She is
particularly protective of children of any race. On a visit to
Ironport she had the symbol to Ptah tattooed on her left gliding
membrane. She was under the influence of Dwarven brew at the time
and now secretly regrets it. Her usual gentle nature hides the
fierce battle rage that overcomes her when the ship or her
companions are threatened. She fights with a pair of +1 long swords
and is specialized in their use.
Kedyal (SP of Ptah3/h/m)
A young lad that has taken up the calling of Ptah. He is much wiser
and worldly than his years, and many underestimate his abilities as
a result. Although he looks forward to the Teleport abilities
granted by being a specialty priest, he is somewhat envious of the
healing abilities of the ships clerics. In addition to the standard
abilities of a specialty priest of Ptah, Kedyal also has major
access to the Time sphere (he will not relate how he has aquired
this to anyone). He also possesses a +1 Mace of Disruption.
Drewedden (C3/he/m)
Older, but not as clever as Kedyal, he usually follows Kedyal's
lead. He is showing promise as a diplomat (but is not of that kit)
due to his soothing, gentle nature. His greatest pleasure is
spelljamming and he often volunteers for extra duty at the helm.
Like most of the priest crew, he possesses the Spelljamming
NWP.
Kudosgil (C1/Star Selkie/m)
Rescued by the crew of the Sea of Stars from a band of neogi
slavers that had captured him as a child, Kudosgil was unaware of
his heritage for many years. Captain Drigelembus is convinced it
was the will of Ptah that Kudosgil was found by the priests and she
has acted as a (somewhat stern) mother figure to him every since.
He has not encountered another of his kind yet and longs to know
more about his species, but most of all wonders what happened to
his family group and how he ended up in the clutches of the
neogi.
An additional crew of about 35-45 first level fighters or clerics are employed and requited at various ports. They are always accepted based on their dedication to Ptah.
CARGO: Although the ship can carry as much as 40 tons, most of the cargo area has been converted to a hospital. Almost any race or alignment will be tended to if a medical need is present, but the patient(s) must listen to a lengthy sermon from Drigelembus or one of the other priests before final release. The crew also makes a coin or two by selling Continual Light and other clerical spells. Beings that worship Ptah or protect wildspace for the use of all races receive preferential treatment. IEN elves fall into this category.
