This creature looks like a metallic, rune-inscribed spider about two feet tall. It has a large gem on its head, and small, tooled arms under its chin.
Clockwork horrors were converted to 3rd Edition in Monster Manual II, p. 47. The two weakest forms of these creaturescopper and silverwere left out of the entry. They are presented below for those who still want to use them.
All clockwork horrors share the following qualities.
Construct Traits: A clockwork horror is immune to mind-affecting effects, poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, death effects, necromantic effects, and any effect that requires a Fortitude save unless it also works on objects. The creature is not subject to critical hits, subdual damage, ability damage, ability drain, energy drain, or death from massive damage. It cannot heal itself but can be healed through repair. It cannot be raised or resurrected. A clockwork horror has darkvision (60-foot range).
Linked Mind (Ex): All clockwork horrors within 10 miles of a gold, platinum, or adamantine horror are in constant communication. If one is aware of a particular danger, they all are. If on in a particular group is not flat-footed, none of them are. No clockwork horror in such a group is considered flanked unless they all are.
Spell Vulnerability (Ex): A clockwork horror is susceptible to the shatter spell, which blinds it for 1d4+1 rounds.
Copper clockwork horrors are the most common variety encountered in the hive. They are used primarily as laborers, but could be instructed to attack nearby threats.
Unlike the more advanced forms, copper clockwork horrors lack the head-mounted razor saw. A common tool is mounted in its place.
Though technically unarmed, copper clockwork horrors can attack with whatever tool they are currently configured to perform their specified task.
Silver clockwork horrors commonly serve as guards over packs of copper clockwork horrors.
In addition to the razor saws common to the higher clockwork horrors, a silver horror is armed with a spring loaded dart. The dart has the same range as a dagger.
