Behind a tree branch you catch the movement of a halfling-sized humanoid. It looks like a cross between a raccoon, a monkey and flying squirrel.

The Kree'uli are a young, social, and inquisitive race. They look like a halfling-sized cross between monkeys and raccoons. Kree'ulis have four-foot long prehensile tails which they use to grasp objects—often wrapping them around tree branches for balance. Attached between their arms and legs is a thin skin membrane that they use for gliding. Their colors fall in the grayish-brown range, with dark rings along their tail and a "bandit mask" around their eyes. Their eyes are bright yellow, red or green; and can be scary when seen at night. They speak Sylvan, though they are illiterate; they pass on their history through tales and stories. Many kree'ulis also know Common.

Kree'ulis are omnivorous. They eat mostly fruits and vegetables, supplementing their diet with an occasional small fish, bird or rodent. They find various bugs especially delicious.

Combat

Kree'ulis are a peaceful and curious race. They are slow to attack strangers, often dealing nonlethal damage first; but they'll fight hard to defend themselves and their homes. They prefer sneak attacks and ambushes to direct action. When they do attack, they use simple weapons like darts, quarterstaves and nets.

In recent years, kree'ulis have started using simple short bows. The arrowheads are made from large thorns or shards of a volcanic glass that is commonly found near the mountains. (See DMG for rules on low tech/stone age weapons.)

Glide (Ex): Kree'ulis can glide using the membranes that stretch between their wrists and ankles. They have a glide speed of 40 feet per round with poor maneuverability, and can move up to three feet forward for every foot they fall. (For example, they can land 150' from the top of a 50' tree.) While gliding, they cannot use their arms and legs for anything else. An unencumbered, lightly armored or unarmored kree'uli that has its arms and legs free takes no damage from falls.

Skills: * Kree'ulis gain a +8 to Climb checks. They gain a +4 bonus to Balance and Move Silently checks.

Kree'uli Society

Kree'uli tree-top villages are composed of separate clans of a few dozen individuals, each led by a clan chief (minimum 4th level character). The village clans are led by a tribal king (minimum 8th level character).

The villages are built on platforms placed high up (more than 40 feet) in the trees, supported by branches and vines. They are nearly invisible to non-kree'ulis. Finding one requires a successful Spot check (DC 20) from within 30 feet of a platform.

Kree'ulis as Characters

Kree'uli leaders tend to be druids or druid/rogues. Most, if not all, non-druid spellcasters are low-level sorcerers. Known spells tend to vary widely between kree'ulis, and seem almost random for each individual.

Kree'uli characters possess the following racial traits.

The kree'uli warrior presented here had the following ability scores before racial adjustments: Str 13, Dex 11, Con 12, Int 10, Wis 9, Cha 8.

In the Spheres

The Kree'uli of Paradise are a young race that has only recently achieved sentience. Their communities are isolated to the life-bearing moon of Rainbow, a gas giant. Contact with the residents of the Smiling Spider has given kree'ulis a taste of civilization, and several small groups have journeyed into wildspace. Knowledge of archery and the bow was introduced by a pair of the 'Spider's elven crew a few years ago, and many villages now use the weapons for hunting and defense.

Thus far, kree'ulis have not spread beyond Cloudspace; they remain rare even there. As individual kree'ulis journey further abroad they may become more common elsewhere in the Known Spheres.
