Perianth

Atwa Falasse

Atwa Falasse (trans. "Twin Beach") is a research and development facility for the Imperial Elven Navy. It is located near Perianth's equator, along the banks of a long, shallow lake at the top of Tar-Ramba, a chain of tall mountains running north to south. The outpost is built into the mountainside. Only its terraces and balconies can be seen from the ground, but several large openings—with carefully disguised gates—appear along the deep crevices found in the upper peaks. Several dozen hangars deep in the mountains, heated by geothermal energy, are used to grow new and experimental ships. In recent decades, the elves have developed, and are still testing, the Arrowing-class man-o-war. A handful of the bays are currently being used to grow the latest batch.

About five and a half centuries ago, the locals, with their penchant for scheming and intrigue, weaseled their way into Atwa Falasse. Once inside the facility, they learned the secrets of how to grow ships. They constructed a hidden base on Perianth's south pole, and attempted to develop their own class of ship—one which the IEN had mentioned, but never brought into Pyrespace. The outcome of this project was the Moon-class armada. It was so named after the first—and last, to this date—use of this type of ship to banish Perianth's dark elves to the moon.

Relations between the IEN and local population have been strained ever since that time. The IEN does not prohibit their allies from growing their own ships or maintaining independent wildspace fleets, but the lack of faith shown by the native elves has chilled any friendly relations they once shared. The Perianth military buys ships from the IEN—mostly new Arrowing-class man-o-wars and warbirds. These ships are used for their day to day needs, since the Moon-class armadas proved too costly to maintain and use on a regular basis.
