Overview

Skerrickt is the Goblin word for frozen hell, and that is exactly what the planet is. Skerrickt is the the 11th body of the sphere and is covered almost entirely with snow and ice. There are a few mountain ranges around the planet and large tracts of ice. The land is relatively flat with the exception of huge forests of ice towers around the north and the south poles. The mountainous ranges are found around these areas as well as the equator.

The equator is a very volcanically active zone, and is a stretch of land about 1,000 kilometers wide right around the planet. The high temperatures have created huge seas of boiling water, and send millions of gallons of steam hurtling up into the atmosphere which freezes very quickly and falls as sleet. The volcanic belt is very active and constantly spewing lava from its thousands of volcanos. Only a small strip of land about 100 km wide on each side is temperate.

Climate

Skerrickt is a very cold planet with its temperate zone in existence only because of the volcanic ring. Fierce blizzards wrack the planet and have eroded most of the mountains in the region between the poles and the equator. The storms are caused by huge thermos that are sent into the air from the volcanic region but are quickly cooled by the frozen area. The planet is mostly dark due to the distance from the fire body, but a dull red glow is constantly seen from the volcanic region. The difference between night and day is that it is a little brighter during the day.

Ports of Call

There are very little civilized habitations on Skerrickt. In the temperate zone is a small city called Fallen Angel. The city is a prospectors city inhabited by those who dare to travel into the volcanic region to search for the precious metals that are spewed out of the volcano. A large amount of mithril in the core of the planet attracts many foolhardy prospectors who dream of finding some. A number of mages have also come to the planet to gain hold of this material.

There are some smaller communities in the temperate zone but Fallen Angel is the main port of call, being next to a large sea which is mostly cool (not boiling everywhere). Things are quite expensive in Fallen Angel due to the scarcity of wood. Even though there is an abundance in the volcanic zone, it tends to be too hot to harvest. Still, when it comes to metallic goods, the amount of metal that can be brought up makes them much cheaper (3/4 price).

Resources/Trade

Skerrickt's major resource is water, having an unlimited amount of it in the form of snow. Food is relatively scarce, as it is only grown the the narrow temperate belts that are ravaged by storms and lava flows. Minerals are in abundance, but the problem is harvesting them from the huge lava flows in the volcanic belt. The furs of Yeti, Auroch, Mammoth, and Woolly Rhino's, are also quite fetching, if people are brave enough to travel out into the icy wastes.

Disposition of Groundlings

There is a very small human population in the temperate zones. They tend to be prospectors or farmers struggling to support Fallen Angle. There is a couple of large dwarven colonies in the Temperate belt, who harvest the minerals from the former lava flow. The cold areas are inhabited by tribes of ice goblins and yeti. These races are not civilized in our sense of the word, but make up the predominant bulk of the population. The human and dwarven communities in the temperate belts must continuously fight off raids by these creatures.

Bolrok

by David Sarkies

Type: spherical ice body
Size: C (850 mile diameter)

The first moon around the planet Skerrickt is a ball of solid ice. There is very little life on this moon as it is nothing more than frozen water. Spelljamming craft tend to use this world as a stop off for air and water. Sometimes pirates have hidden nearby to attack ships that land on this planet.

Danger

by David Sarkies

Type: spherical earth body; airless
Size: D (1650 mile diameter)

Nobody knows what happened to this moon, but its atmosphere has been stripped and is nothing more than a desolate ball of rock. The remains of many life forms including trees and even wrecked spelljamming craft cover the surface of this planet. Rumors abound that undead now rule this world but nobody has stayed long enough to find out if it is true. All that is known is that as soon as somebody lands on this world they are attacked by all sorts of skeletons.

The truth about Danger is that it is the home of a triad of wizards. This triad had battled with another group of wizards on this world and the battle resulted in the devastation of everybody but three of the wizards. The destruction of the spelljamming craft meant that they were trapped on the planet and thus made their home under the world and began a long period of research. Now they have access everywhere through planar portals but attempt to drive off intruders so that their experiments will be safe.

Kaboltron

by David Sarkies

Type: spherical earth body; airless
Size: C (850 mile diameter)

This moon is another lifeless moon. Long ago all of the air was frozen by a group of mages so that they might be able to have a constant supply. The mages never returned to this world so it remained frozen. The air has been frozen into huge crystals that protrude out of the rock of the moon like mountains and can be unfrozen with a simple, continuous, fire spell.

Mebrok

by David Sarkies

Type: spherical earth body; airless
Size: D (1900 mile diameter)

Mebrok is an air world, but the air is chlorine gas, thus poisonous to most travelers. The world appears to be a green ball of gas but inside are four large rocks. These rocks are the home to four green great wyrms. They are able to travel between the moons and the planet for game and attack spelljamming craft that fly to close to this moon.
